The Atheist Society of Kern is dedicated to assisting our community in some of its most needed areas. We believe in fostering connections among individuals and organizations that make a real impact in Bakersfield and our outlying communities. We’re a collection of “doers” and the safety and support of families and children in our community is one of our highest priorities.
The Miriam Jamison Children’s Center is a 24-Hour emergency shelter and protective custody facility. They provide a temporary and safe environment for abused, neglected and exploited children from all walks of life. In many cases, these children are abruptly taken from their homes. ASK has organized a book drive to assist the children of these tragic situations. You can help here.
Alliance Against Family Violence & Sexual Assault
The Alliance began as a 24-Hour hotline, and has turned into one of the most important havens for safety and security in our community. The AAFVSA is a nonprofit organization, who focuses on shelter services, education, and counseling. They provide critically needed LGBTQ support as well. Providing these emergency support services requires resources and volunteers. ASK is coordinating a focused support campaign to assist the AAFVSA with their efforts. You can help here.
